The CSTO2NE project took center stage at the Jornades Internacionals d’Energies Renovables i Sobirania, a leading forum on renewable energy and energy sovereignty in Catalonia. Held at the University of Lleida, this event was a vibrant hub for researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities of achieving a 100% renewable energy system.
With over 100 attendees, the conference sparked critical conversations on the environmental and economic impacts of imported energy, while highlighting the transformative power of local, sustainable solutions.
As part of the event’s EU project corner, the CSTO2NE team presented its mission of transforming waste into valuable, CO₂-absorbing materials. Our roll-up display introduced visitors to the project’s holistic approach, combining biomimicry, mineral carbonation, and eco-design to tackle carbon emissions while promoting a circular economy.
Attendees explored how CSTO2NE’s groundbreaking technologies aim to:
Repurpose industrial by-products into construction materials through accelerated carbonation.
Utilize phytomining to extract metals from polluted soils, turning contaminated land into a resource.
Develop microplastic filtration systems to prevent ocean pollution.
Design sustainable aggregates that lower the carbon footprint of the construction sector.
Participating in the Jornada REN was an opportunity to align the CSTO2NE project’s mission with broader goals for regional energy independence and decarbonization. The event underscored the importance of integrating circular economy principles into the energy transition, encouraging new partnerships and future collaborations.
Discussions during the event highlighted the growing demand for CO₂-neutral materials and the role of bio-inspired technologies in driving sustainable innovation.
The CSTO2NE team believes that tackling the climate crisis requires a collaborative approach. Events like the Jornades Internacionals d’Energies Renovables i Sobirania not only amplify the importance of renewable energy but also open doors to cross-sector partnerships—essential for scaling up sustainable solutions.
We’re excited to continue sharing our progress and working with stakeholders across Europe to build a greener, more resilient future.
Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards a carbon-neutral economy!
