Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI)
UBI is a public university in Portugal that is part of the UNITA Consortium of European Universities. It has around 8,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students and is located in the central mountains of Portugal, along the historical Zêzere river valley. The university is host to the C-MADE Centre of Materials and Building Technologies, which focuses on sustainable construction, climate change mitigation, and eco-materials, and the NECE Research Unit in Business Sciences, which integrates knowledge and methods from across business science.
Bioxegy (BIO)
Bioxegy is a new research and engineering office, specialised in biomimicry and pioneering bio-inspired innovation. Biomimicry is an innovation and R&D approach which consists in drawing inspiration from nature’s clever mechanisms and ingenious systems. Bioxegy partners with large and medium-sized industries, in all different kinds of sectors in France and abroad, to imagine, conceive and develop bio-inspired technologies and innovations.
Brunel University of London (BUL)
BUL is a Higher Education and research institution with a turnover of over £270 million. It has significant intellectual, financial, and social resources and contributes to the economy and community of the West London region, with national and international links and partnerships with academia and industry. Research is central to BUL's academic activities, and it has been involved in numerous projects, including 120 within FP7 and 85 from the start of H2020, of which it has led and coordinated 9. By April 2023, BUL has secured 22 Horizon Europe projects with values about 9 million euros.
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
DTU Construct (The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering) develops and utilises science and technical knowledge for the benefit of society and the sustainable development. Research in Biomimicry and Biologically Inspired Design aims at facilitating the innovative development of industrial products and building systems. Carefully conducted analyses of functional needs form the basis searching the biological domain to identify and understand relevant biological analogies. The insights are used to develop effective and efficient development methods and to inspire the research and development with materials, mechanisms and systems.
Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM)
UPM is the largest technical university in Spain, with 22 faculties in engineering, architecture, and sports science. The interdisciplinary group in this project includes 26 researchers from various disciplines who focus on sustainability in project management, circular economy, and improved construction products with recycled content. They belong to R&D groups of "Projects and Quality" and "Sustainability in Construction and Industry." The group maintains stable collaborative research relationships, and profiles are balanced from materials, applications, and business management.
Universidad de Lleida (UDL)
UDL is a public university with 12,000 students and 1,200 teaching/research staff. The research group GREiA at UDL has long experience in thermal energy storage (TES) technologies, energy efficiency in buildings, artificial intelligence applied to control strategies, and advanced control strategies implementation. They develop TES concepts and systems for various applications, including solar water tanks, buildings, and industrial applications. UDL also characterizes and develops new sustainable materials and construction materials with low environmental impact, and works on dynamic structures applied to steel or reinforced with cement. Recently, UDL has conducted LCA/LCC on various systems, such as energy efficiency buildings and waste management systems.
Carbon8 Systems (C8S)
C8S is an SME that was established in 2006 to commercialize Accelerated Carbonation Technology patents and know-how developed at the University of Greenwich. There are currently four commercial plants in operation that use the technology, with the first plant being developed under a license to another company in 2012. There are currently three licensed plants operating in the UK and a fourth in France, which is operated by Carbon8 Systems. The company has received EU and UK government grants, as well as a grant from the Ontario Centre of Excellence, to help commercialize the technology. Carbon8 Systems maintains close ties with the University of Greenwich, where the company's laboratories are located.
Associação CBPBI (CBP)
Plant Biotechnology Centre of Beira Interior (CBPBI) is a centre for valorisation and transfer of knowledge within the Portuguese Scientific and Technological System that aims to develop the field
of biotechnology of plants and to promote its use in economic activities; to establish partnerships and provide products and services that will enable the creation and growth of companies related to plant biotech; also can offer facilities, equipment, technology and support to start-up and spin-off companies with close cooperation with other national and international R&D institutions.
Phyona Ltd (PHY)
Phyona Ltd focusses on the recovery and upcycling of metals from contaminated soils.
Phyona establishes ad hoc mining gardens (agro-mining) and then treats the metal-rich biomass using low energy green processes in order to recover and convert the metal-bearing particles in nanoparticles usable for Industry. Phyona is in its infancy and is looking to generate viable R&D products during the CSTO2NE.
Politechnika Slaska
SUT is the oldest technical university in Upper Silesia and one of the largest in the country. The mission of the SUT is to conduct innovative scientific research and development works, as well as to educate highly qualified staff for the benefit of the knowledge-based society and economy, and to actively influence the development of the region and local communities.The strongest asset of SUT is its potential, which is realised through the development of scientific research, staff and internationalisation. All these three components are developed in six priority research areas: computational oncology and personalized medicine, artificial intelligence and data processing, material of the future, smart cities and future mobility, process automation and Industry 4.0 as well as climate and environmental protection, modern energy.
Henan Polytechnic University (HPU)
HPU is a multi-disciplinary teaching and research university in Jiaozuo City, China. It is the first mining university in Chinese history and has sisterhood relationships with 25 countries and more than 75 universities worldwide. HPU promotes international academic exchanges and cooperation and has a Research Centre of Green Building Materials (RCGBM), which focuses on up-cycling waste into cementitious materials and low-carbon cementitious research.
